Standerton couple dies in accident close to Secunda

Werner and Julie Pretorius were on their way to close friends in Secunda who would have taken Julie for her induction training at Sasol. Today would have been her first day at her new job.

Werner (44) and Julie (41) Pretorius from Standerton died in an accident on the road to Sasol’s Charlie 5 gate this morning, August 18.

They were travelling in their bakkie towards Secunda when the accident involving a second vehicle happened at about 05:15.

Although Werner worked at Sasol, the couple planned first to stop at their close friends, Juan and Natasha van der Walt, before he would have headed to his work.

According to Juan van der Walt, Julie was to begin working for Sasol today and the Van der Walts were to take her to where she should have received her induction training.

“They left their home in Standerton at 04:45, and we expected to see them shortly before 06:00. When they did not arrive by 06:00 nor answered their phones, we began phoning around,” explained Juan.

“I eventually spoke to Jaco Horn (Junior) from JTR towing, who said I should go to the scene.”

“They had already passed away when I arrived.”

ER24 paramedics were on the scene.

Juan thanked JTR for their help and MavCorp for regulating the traffic on the accident scene.

Werner and Julie were known for their love for one another.

He was also known for photography in the bodybuilding circles.

The couple has a son, Wian, a matric learner in Standerton, a daughter, Danika living in Middelburg and two grandchildren.

The police are investigating the cause of the accident.
