She said it is concerning that eMbalenhle got a high number of suicide cases which can be prevented if people can start visiting clinics to get help.

It was an interesting moment for both staff members and the public at the Ext 4 clinic in eMbalenhle during the annual clinic open day held on August 3.

They shared affirmative ideas based on rendered services.

According to Sipho Welani, the clinic committee chairperson, the objective of the function was to put the public on the front line of the clinic, providing health education and creating awareness on how to benefit from the resources rendered by the clinic.

Welani also encouraged the community to use the suggestion box as a communication tool that links internal staff members and the community.

He said that they can use clinic committee members as the communication agents and also said they are closely working together with one of the local doctors who are always available if they need help.

Welani said an open day for clinics is important to the community because they can then access other health services, which are not regularly available at their clinics.

The Ext 4 clinic in eMbalenhle held an open day.

Nomfundo Dubulekhwele from Gert Sibande Mental Health sub-district encouraged the community to go to the clinics for regular examination and not only if they are ill.

She said eMbalenhle’s high suicide rate is alarming. According to Dubulekhwele, suicide can be prevented if people visit clinics to get help.

All the eMbalenhle clinics held their open days on different days.
