Zithobeni Secondary cleans up for Mandela Day

Zithobeni Secondary School celebrated Nelson Mandela Day on July 17.

Zithobeni Secondary School hosted their Nelson Mandela Day at the school on July 17. The school comprises about 950 learners.

The school invited teachers, parents and learners to the cleaning campaign, held in celebration of Nelson Mandela Day.

Teachers came from Pretoria, Cullinan, and Bronkhorstspruit to assist in this campaign. About 30 people from the community also helped with the outreach.

The cleaning campaign is something new the school has started. The ideal will be that this campaign is not just a once-off on Mandela Day but that it will happen at least once every quarter.

Sinah Makama, a high school teacher, helps to clean the school.

The theme for the day was to dress like a domestic worker. Everyone had to take their own bucket, broom, and mop.

They painted the classrooms, cut the grass, cleaned the flower beds and also cleaned the classrooms.

They made food for everyone who took part in the cleaning campaign.

Meta Mako, the principal, said, “We want to foster the spirit of giving back to the school, as lending a hand where they can.”
