Court sentences two eMzinoni rapists

Man gets 20 years imprisonment.

Two rapists connected to separate incidents were sentenced earlier in July. Themba Msibi was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for raping a woman in 2019.

Sibusiso Nkosi (41) was arrested in April last year and charged with assault, sexual assault and attempted murder.

Nkosi was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for rape and five years for attempted murder, but all the sentences will run concurrently.

Nkosi approached a group of friends at a tavern in eMzinoni in April last year and send some of the people in the group to draw money for him.

When two of the friends left to draw the money, he dragged the remaining woman to an open field where he first beat her up and then raped her twice.

He tied her up and then sexually assaulted her with a broken bear bottle.

A cattle herdsman came to her rescue when he heard her screaming and chased the man away and contacted the police.

Nkosi was arrested a few days after he committed the crimes.
