GMM aware of problems at Trichardt Cemetery

The municipality will follow up if they receive more details of their workers being careless at the cemetery.

A mother unhappy with how municipal workers worked in Trichardt Cemetery, especially around her baby’s grave, who died on February 25 2017, voiced her complaints to the Ridge Times.

According to the mother, Elize Nienaber, the municipal workers of the Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) were careless and drove their tractors over her baby’s grave when they cut the grass.

She said they only cut the grass occasionally, and it was often long and overgrown, so much so that one could not even see the grave.

The Ridge Times asked the spokesperson of GMM, Donald Green, for comment.

He said the municipality was aware of the complaints about the overgrown grass in open public spaces, and they wanted to assure residents that the delegated department was attending to the maintenance requests with limited resources.

“Concerning the staff being uncaring, should we receive details, such as the date and time of incident occurred, we will do a follow-up to address the alleged behaviour by the relevant staff,” said Green.
