Brits family from Bronkhorstspruit is destitute after fire

The family needs clothes, bedding, electrical appliances or finances.

The Brits family from Bronkhorstspruit lost everything when their house burnt down on July 8.

Everything from the beds and furniture to their clothes was burnt to ashes when the fire broke out at noon in their house on Second Avenue.

The family was not home at the time.

Collin Brits, the homeowner, was thankful no one in his family was injured. He arrived home to see his house go up in flames.

The house was totally burnt.

A faulty extension is suspected to have caused the fire.

Brits said the Bronkhorstspruit Fire Department was there to help, but the firefighters struggled to extinguish the blaze.

Residents helped the firefighters by holding the fire hose. JVR Security and the Bronkhorstspruit CPF were also on the scene.

“Wouter Bothma from JVR Security ran across the road to assist with a hosepipe. He helped us a lot,” said Brits.

Everything was completely burnt and the family found nothing they could salvage.

The family has asked the community for help with clothes, bedding, electrical appliances or finances.

Collin, his wife, Yanke, and their daughters, aged eight and four, now live with family.

They thanked everyone who helped, especially Collin’s parents, Kobus and Elise Brits, the fire brigade, Kosie du Plessis, JVR and Bothma.

Anyone wanting to help the family can contact Brits on 083 784 6117.
