Burglars steal computers from clinic in eMbalenhle

The clinic was officially opened by President Cyril Ramaphosa who was a deputy president and chairperson of the South African National Aids Council (SANAC) in 2017 and built by Sasol.

Criminals burglarised the Ext 14 clinic in eMbalenhle and took two computers on the morning of June 26.

According to Doctor Thanjekwayo, the clinic committee chairperson, the burglars gained entry although there were two security guards.

Thanjekwayo is concerned about the slow police response to the scene because the guards claimed they informed SAPS early in the morning.

“How can someone report crime around 03:00, but the forensic team comes at 08:00 and police only arrive at 11:00? What type of service is this? How long do they take to respond to the scene where community members are being attacked by criminals.

“When another committee member and I arrived and saw that there were no police yet, we decided to go straight to the police station.

“After passing the Ext 17 taxi rank, we saw three police bakkies parked at a private residence,” said Thanjekwayo.

He said they tried to get the members’ attention, but a cop told them that their complaint had been received and will be attended to.

Thanjekwayo said they went back to the clinic to wait for cops who arrived after several hours.

The eMbalenhle police spokesperson, Constable Busi Mthethwa, said they have opened a burglary case and the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have yet been made.

The clinic was officially opened by President Cyril Ramaphosa who was a deputy president and chairperson of the South African National Aids Council (SANAC) in 2017 and built by Sasol.
