Delmas First hosts fun run fundraiser

“An event such as this can change minds and make people positive about Delmas and take us forward in unity.”

A morning that started as glooming, cold and foggy turned into a sunny, fun and action-packed day.

As part of the Delmas First Initiative and in partnership with Gossa Holdings and many more sponsors, a first-ever 5km walk and 10km fun run took place on June 24 in Delmas.

They set the start for 09:00, but due to zero visibility caused by dense fog, traffic officials who deemed it unsafe postponed the start to 10:00.

This did not break the spirit of the runners, walkers, and visitors. All participants spontaneously joined in an aerobic warm-up with upbeat music.

The traffic officials gave participants the green light at 10:00. In the 5km fun walk, Adelle Nkosi finished in a dramatic first place while Lizette Lourens finished second.

In the 10km fun run, Dumsani Mohlangu from Springs finished first, with Tsietsi John Ntisa and Teboho Mnisi from Botleng in second and third.

They rewarded all participants with medals. This morning, filled with good spirits and lots of fun, aimed to raise funds for the voluntary group, known in

Delmas as Delmas First, to buy asphalt to fill some of the worst potholes in Delmas.

The speaker of Victor Khanye Local Municipality, Hendrey Ngoma, thanked Delmas First for the great initiative.

“This initiative is an example to residents with negative thoughts. An event such as this can change minds and make people positive about Delmas and take us forward in unity,” said Ngoma. “By working together, we can do more.”

Gossa Holdings showed the day’s events could become one of many more to raise funds to improve the town, with VKLM and other role-players, and unify the community through fun activities.

The management of Delmas First thanks the businesses and individuals for their generous donations towards the upgrade of Delmas.

“Together we stand, divided we fall.”
