Police visit schools in Bronkhorstspruit

The primary school learners were taught about their rights.

The officers from social crime prevention and communication embarked on a Child Protection Week from May 29 to June 5.

They visited Vezulwazi Primary School, Retahabiseng Primary School, Mkhambi Primary School and Bronkhorstspruit Primary School.

National Child Protection Week is commemorated annually in the country to raise awareness of the rights of children as articulated in the Constitution of South Africa and the Children’s Act.

The police conducted this awareness campaign under the theme ‘The police are children’s friends and they protect us’.

Through this, they addressed children’s rights, bullying, human trafficking, abuse, sexual harassment and child labour.

Constable Munyadziwa Cathrine Ramovha, the spokesperson for Bronkhorstspruit police, said they taught the learners not to talk to strangers or take anything from strangers because there are people who abduct children.

Principals of all four schools thanked the police for the visits.
