Double murder suspect from eMbalenhle re-appears in court

Leloko Mapitsi must be back in the dock on June 21.

Leloko Mapitsi, the man in whose room in eMbalenhle two bodies were found in February, appeared before the Evander Magistrate’s Court.

His case was postponed to June 21. Mapitsi is facing two charges of murder.

The police first discovered a woman’s corpse in the early stages of decomposition in the suspect’s bed.

Phumzile Makoena’s body was found after Mapitsi’s mother, Maleloko, alerted the police of a foul odour and flies coming from her son’s room.

She called the police when she could not access the room.

Her son had locked the door and taken the key with him when he was arrested two days before and was still in police custody at the time of the initial discovery.

Two days after discovering Makoena’s body, police returned to the room on February 18, and discovered another body – that of Doctor Mofokeng – under the bed.

Police also linked the investigation of an old murder to this case.
