Police operation in Bronkhorstspruit area and parts of Tshwane nabs 671

On April 15, the multi-disciplinary and integrated provincial Operation Okae Molao was executed in the Bronkhorstspruit and Ekangala policing precincts.

The police, wanting to make the residents of Tshwane feel and be safe, executed successfully integrated multi-disciplinary operations comprised of law enforcement agencies like the departments of home affairs and community safety, security and liaison, along with the Tshwane Metro Police and Gauteng Traffic.

The operation took place from April 14 to 16 under the watchful command of Major General Azwinndini Nengovhela.

According to Sergeant Sam Shibambo, the communications officer for the Tshwane district, the police used their crime prevention techniques during the operations and arrested 671 people.

Through their suspects raiding operations, detectives traced and arrested 234 suspects wanted for committing serious offences such as murder, attempted murder, house robbery, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, rape, theft and fraud. Of those arrested, 68 were nabbed for GBV-related cases.

Eleven motorists were arrested for drunken driving in the Tshwane central corridor. The integrated provincial Operation Okae Molao was in the Bronkhorstspruit and Ekangala policing precincts on April 15.

During the operation, 56 undocumented immigrants were arrested, nine shebeens were closed down for selling liquor without licences or permits, and the owners received hefty fines, four motorists were arrested for drunken driving, three suspected drug dealers were nabbed with crystal meth and nyaope, 10 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs, and seven were arrested for drinking liquor in public.

The Gauteng Traffic Police and the Tshwane Metro Police issued 43 AARTO fines valued at R33 730 to motorists for various road traffic offences. The police searched 750 people and 450 vehicles.

The SAPS’ Vehicle Identification and Safeguarding Unit seized two Nissan NP200 bakkies for enquiry on suspicion that the vehicle identification numbers were tampered with.

All those arrested for allegedly committing serious offences appeared in various courts around the district on April 17.
