Security guard nabbed near Delmas with stolen cables

Three culprits fled the scene, but the supervisor cornered his security guard and found 29 rolls of copper cable.

A security guard was found in possession of copper cables valued at R150 000. A supervisor from Afri Guard was doing patrols on April 16 on the R555 between Delmas and Ogies.

He met up with one of his guarding vehicles, a Toyota Hilux LDV, on the way. According to the supervisor, the Toyota suddenly sped off.

Not understanding what had happened, the supervisor decided to follow the Toyota. The supervisor tried to stop the car on several occasions without success.

At some stage, the Toyota drove into a dead-end and had to stop. As the supervisor approached it, he was surprised to find one of his own guards behind the wheel.

The 29 rolls of copper cabling are valued at R150 000.

Three more suspects alighted from the car and fled the scene into a nearby informal settlement.

The supervisor, however, cornered his security guard and found 29 rolls of copper cable loaded on the back of the Toyota.

According to Captain Carla Hartley, the media spokesperson for the Delmas police, the copper cables were stolen at the Argent railway station.

The security guard (35) was arrested and taken to the Delmas SAPS.

At the time of going to print, the suspect was due to appear in the Delmas District Court on April 18 under the CMA Act for the possession of stolen property.
