Standerton Magistrate’s Court remands suspects in custody on charges of damaging infrastructure

According to a statement from the Hawks, information was received and followed up regarding the suspects who damaged essential infrastructure in Morgenzon in April last year.

Lerato Raymond Kubyane (35) and Imil Frans (58) were remanded in custody by the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Friday, April 14 on charges of tampering and damaging essential infrastructure in Gezina, Pretoria and KZN respectively.

Secunda Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Transnet officials and KZN DPCI members arrested them on Wednesday, April 12.

According to a statement from the Hawks, information was received and followed up regarding the suspects who damaged essential infrastructure in Morgenzon in April last year.

Upon arrival at the identified address in Pretoria, Kubyane was found and interviewed. He was then linked with the crime, arrested and detained at Standerton Police Station.

Through intelligence and informers network, Frans, who was believed to be the mastermind behind the tampering and damage to essential infrastructure and theft, was traced and arrested by DPCI members in KZN on April 12 and also detained.

Both accused appeared before the Standerton Magistrate’s Court last Friday and the case was postponed to April 24 for a formal bail application.

The investigation continues.
