Police warn against police employment scam
Mthethwa said some deposited different amount of money, from R3 000 to R4 000 depending on the caller's instruction.
The local police warn residents against a scam involving police uniforms and work.
The scammers phone and tell people interested in joining the police service to first deposit money for a uniform.
According to Constable Busi Mthethwa, police spokesperson, they have received many complaints from the public.
People have been arriving at the police stations in Secunda and eMbalenhle demanding work or their money back.

According to Mthethwa, the complainants asked for either Mr Hadebe or Dlamini who introduced themselves as police human resource officers.
The scammers tell their victims that they are employed by the SAPS and that are vacancies.
They later phone for a second time to tell their victims to deposit money for uniforms into accounts provided by the culprits.

Mthethwa said all police recruitment adverts are advertised in the newspapers and on the police stations’ notice boards.
She said the community must be vigilant of these scammers.
“If someone calls and tells you that he or she is a human resource officer of Secunda or eMbalenhle, first go to these stations to verify this.
“You don’t pay money to become a police recruit and when you are recruited by the SAPS, you are provided with the necessary uniform for free,” said Mthethwa.
