Mother and son appear in Secunda Court for allegedly giving a gun to suspected drug dealer

The pair was arrested and charged.

An elderly woman (67) and her son (35) were arrested in Secunda on Wednesday, March 15, for contravening the provisions of the firearm control Act 60 of 2000.

They were nabbed during an intelligence-driven disruptive operation conducted by Secunda-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team together with Secunda Crime Intelligence.

Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, Mpumalanga spokesperson for the Hawks, said the arrests followed an intensive investigation conducted about a firearm which was confiscated during the arrest of an alleged drug dealer on March 9.

“The Hawks’ investigation revealed that the firearm belongs to this family.

“Further probe also revealed that the duo allegedly released the 38 special revolver and six rounds of live ammunition to the dealer after the son owed R1 500 for drugs and later allegedly offered it as a payment,” said Sekgotodi.

The pair was arrested and charged. They were to appear in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court today, March 16.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Mpumalanga, Major General Nico Gerber appeals to the community in Mpumalanga to provide information about drug dealing and illegal possession firearms in the province.
