53 participants at Standerton River Park celebrate parkrun’s birthday

Jean Robertson organised the inaugural event on March 10, 2018 where 209 participants took on the 5km and many visitors arrived.

Altogether 53 participants arrived at the 182nd parkrun on Saturday, March 11, celebrating the fifth anniversary with colourful masks.

Thusano Netshisimanani completed the distance in a time of 20:31 and the first woman to reach the finish line was Chrizell Roberts in 21:05.

Run director Renette de Sousa, did the customary countdown last Saturday.

Mthokozisi Tshwala reached the finish line in 20:41, while Andiswamahlubi Hadebe clocked in at 25:29.

Theo Schönfeldt registered a time of 25:52, followed by Wassie Rossouw’s 26:46, a new personal best.

Mbuso Mazibuko ran a time of 27:00, followed by Mariette Jansen van Vuuren’s 28:41.

Deleney Grobbelaar also improved her time and reached the finish line in 28:48, while Pieter Grobbelaar ran his 50th in 29:01.

Thikolelwi Mudau competed in his 50th event as well and recorded a time of 32:29, with Marli Griesel also competing in her 50th and recorded a time of 35:51.

Dina Oberholzer’s time was 36:24 and Christel Handford reached the finish line in 37:07.

Antoinette Herbst, Ishara Pillay, Kay Pillay, Krishnalal Ramdharee, Lizette Jansen van Rensburg, Marius Kilian, Priscilla Ramdharee, Ronnie Moodley, Ruan van Zyl, Ruwan Vermaak, Séan Jansen van Rensburg and Sylvy Moodley took up positions to ensure a safe and smooth event.

The parkrun is a free event and participants can run, jog or walk for some exercise.
