Bronkhorstspruit police confiscate unlicensed firearms and ammunition

They seized two .44 black powder revolvers, ammunition (R5 and 303), 12-bore shotgun ammunition, 37mm rubber rounds, several smoke grenades and a hand grenade.

Bronkhorstspruit police arrested a man (32) on February 17 for possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and explosives.

Station commander Colonel Maqhawe Simon Dhladhla said in a statement that detectives were investigating a house robbery that took place on February 8.

The robbery complainant is now the suspect facing possession charges. Detectives visited the plot and interviewed the man on Friday.

He confirmed that two unlicensed firearms that belonged to his late father were taken during the house robbery.

According to the suspect, an unknown person brought two containers left by his late father to his house about four years ago. He permitted the officers to search the containers.

Also called to the scene were the Local Criminal Record Centre and the Pretoria Explosive Unit.

The unlicensed firearms and ammunition were booked in at the Bronkhorstspruit SAPS to serve as exhibits.

The police remind the public to surrender illegal and unwanted firearms, parts of firearms, and ammunition.

“Dhladhla applauded the detectives for their professionalism in handling the case. The suspect will soon appear before the court,” said Constable Munyadziwa Cathrine Ramovha, the communication officer of the Bronkhorstspruit SAPS.
