Cricket of Standerton in tip-top condition

Jaden Breytenbach was a bowling machine on Sunday, taking out six of Piet Retief’s batsmen for 31 runs.

Standerton Cricket Club’s first and second teams were red hot on the pitch this weekend.

Standerton 1 trampled the Ermelo Warriors in a one-day match of 50 overs in Ermelo on Saturday, January 21, beating their opponents by 150 runs.

Ermelo won the toss and sent Standerton in to bat first. Standerton 1 made a whopping 294 runs for 10 wickets in 49.3 overs.

Their opening batsman, PJ Venter top-scored with 55 runs off 47 balls.

The batsmen who made double-digit runs are Johan Janse van Rensburg with 46 runs off 74 balls, Carus Janse van Rensburg with 46 runs off 74 balls, Dayne Young with 43 off 39 balls, Pieter van Niekerk with 39 runs off 27 wickets and captain Jan-Dirk van Dyk with 15 runs off 19 balls.

Excellent fieldwork further secured Standerton’s triumph. They took Ermelo out with 144 runs for 10 wickets in 29,3 overs.

Standerton’s bowlers Carus Janse van Rensburg felled three wickets, Pieter van Niekerk and Dayne Young took two wickets each and Eric van Zyl sent the last Ermelo player off.

Standerton 2 defeated Piet Retief by 164 runs in a home game in the Gert Sibande Promotional League 40 overs on Sunday, January 22.

Piet Retief won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Standerton 2 scored 284 runs for eight wickets in their 40 overs, with two wickets to spare, against Piet Retief’s 120 for 10 wickets in 21 overs.

Standerton 2’s top scorer was Werner Mouton with 61 runs off 46 balls.

Opening batsman WJ Smith made 28 runs off 41 balls, Craig Young made 40 runs off 34 balls, Joe Coetzer scored 19 runs off 42 balls, Tinus Ferreira had 24 runs off 21 balls, Jaden Breytenbach made 20 runs off 21 balls, Estian du Toit secured 21 runs off 11 balls and Peter Couvarus scored 30 runs off 19 balls.
