CAER holds festive season drive for safety awareness

The festive season drive was supported by law enforcement agencies, local hospitals, ambulance services, fire and rescue services and businesses within the GMM.

Creating awareness around several topics applicable to the festive season, including road safety, water safety, fire safety and the like was the purpose of the CAER drive.

CAER (Community Awareness Emergency Response) representatives interacted with community members at various venues in the Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM).

Activities included the handout of pamphlets, licence disc stickers and bookmarks with safety information and emergency numbers to community members at shopping malls, intersections and toll gates.

During this period, 64 A1 posters with safety slogans were displayed at venues throughout the GMM area.

There were also 15 safety awareness banners displayed for the duration of the drive at various locations.

Some 30 000 flyers, 2 300 licence disk stickers and 1 430 bookmarks were handed out.

“It is vital that drivers stay awake and aware of other road users. This is to ensure that they deliver their passengers safely to their destination during the festive season,” said Neels de Klerk, the station commander of Sasol’s engineering and preparedness regional site services Secunda.

He said that a focus point during this period was to offer drivers of vehicles on the highways an opportunity to refresh themselves.

The festive season drive was supported by law enforcement agencies, local hospitals, ambulance services, fire and rescue services and businesses in the GMM.

A word of appreciation went to all CAER members for their efforts with the festive initiative and to the public for their support in making the drive a success.
