Standerton impresses with 210 runs in T20 match

Henré Naudé caused a stir by whacking 61 off 32 deliveries before Neil Rust took his wicket.

Standerton Cricket Club’s first team scored an impressive 210 runs for six wickets in their second T20 match against the Ermelo Warriors on Sunday, October 30.

This more than made up for losing the first innings on home turf. These premier league matches were played on the oval of Hoërskool Standerton.

The Warriors went in to bat first in the first match, setting a sturdy pace with a final score of 147 runs for four wickets in their 20 overs.

Batsman Riaan Jansen top-scored for the Warriors with 46 runs off 47 balls.

The Warriors’ Drian Swart smashed 19 runs off only seven balls before he hit a delivery from Pieter van Niekerk into the hands of Standerton’s Ricus van der Hoven.

Standerton bowlers Van Niekerk and Quintin Kruger each took a wicket. PJ Venter and Johan Janse van Rensburg opened the batting for Standerton.

They worked at a steady run rate before Shaun Roodt from the Warriors sent Janse van Rensburg back to the bench with 31 runs off 34 balls.

Venter was caught out by Michael van Niewenhuizen short of his 50-run milestone. He scored 49 off 50 balls.

Dayne Young scored four runs off eight balls, Van Dyk made 17 runs off 15 balls and Quintin Kruger made 17 off nine deliveries.

Although Standerton gave a hard chase to beat the visitors’ score, they fell short with 16 runs. Their final score was 131 for five wickets in 20 overs.

A pep talk from captain Jan-Dirk van Dyk send the home team fired up into the second match.

“I told them to be more aggressive in their batting,” explained Van Dyk.

Although opening batsman Venter was caught out after only seven balls, the team was soon reeling in the runs at a run rate of 10.5.

Janse van Rensburg smashed 57 off 33 balls while André Schwab contributed 18 runs off 11 balls. Henré Naudé caused a stir by whacking 61 off 32 deliveries before Neil Rust took his wicket.

Pieter van Niekerk made 16 runs off 11 balls and Jan-Dirk van Dyk made seven off seven. Dayne Young scored 23 runs off 17 balls not out.

Quintin Kruger only faced three balls before the 20 overs ran out, ending the score on 210 runs for 6. Drian Swart was Ermelo’s top bowler for felling two wickets.

Naudé also delivered outstanding fieldwork. Ermelo Warriors’ opening batsman Ivan Kemp remained in the game until the end, scoring 54 runs off 58 balls.

His first partner, Diaan Swart scored 43 off 30 balls before bowler PJ Venter sent him off with an LBW. With a runout, Standerton’s Naudé made sure Drian Swart went off the pitch with only one run.

Venter and Naudé showed a lethal dose of teamwork when Venter bowled and Naudé caught out Dean Myburg and then Nicky Janse van Rensburg.

Myburg only managed one run and Janse van Rensburg was out for a duck. Naudé and Young worked together to take Wynand Geel’s wicket with a runout.

Venter was Standerton’s top bowler for taking three wickets. Quintin Kruger took one wicket. Ermelo Warriors finished with 135 for seven, losing by 75 runs.
