Multiple vehicle accidents on roads in the Govan Mbeki municipal area today

Two of the accidents happened in Walter Sisulu Road in Secunda.

Emergency and towing services have been kept busy with numerous vehicle accidents this week.

Although heavy rain and wet roads contributed to some of the  accidents, most reports are of motorists simply not obeying the rules of the road, causing accidents that could have been prevented.

Today, October 4, an accident was reported on the N17, heading towards the Kinross water towers, at around 12.00. A motorist lost control over his vehicle when he drove through a pool of water. The vehicle crashed into another vehicle. Injuries to the driver are unknown.

On the R546 between Walker Park Golf Club and eMbalenhle, the driver of a Mercedes rear-ended a truck that was stationed in the emergency lane. The accident happened at around 15.00. It is not known if the driver sustained any injuries.

This afternoon two vehicles collided at the traffic light at the intersection of Walter Sisulu Road and  Helen Joseph Drive, near the Fireplace Roadhouse. A traffic light was bumped over at the intersection by one of the vehicles.

This comes at a time GMM has been working tirelessly to restore traffic lights along this stretch of road. The cause of the accident is unknown.

Another two vehicles collided at the traffic lights intersection of Walter Sisulu Road and Oliver Tambo Drive in Secunda at about 16:20.
