Volunteer for a day at the Delmas Animal Shelter

Pet’s are often ‘dumped’ at the shelter, either already highly pregnant or in some cases moms with their recently birthed puppy's.

The Delmas Animal Shelter, a well-known centre that cares for stray, abandoned and abused animals, is planning its next volunteer day for Saturday, September 24.

The two women in charge of the shelter, mom and daughter team Jolandie and Jorinda Verwey, not only care for cats and dogs but also have a variety of farm animals for which they provide food, care and love.

“We also have an ongoing ever-growing challenge to educate pet owners about sterilisation.

“Pets are often dumped at the shelter, either already highly pregnant or in some cases, moms with their recently birthed puppies.

“This leaves us in a predicament, as all these fur kids need to be sterilised before we can re-home them safely. We desperately need sponsors for our fur kids that need to be sterilised so they too may find their forever homes.”

All these animals have to be fed, sheltered, sterilised and medicated, the staff needs to be paid and rent has to be paid for the premises.

“We hope to see as many of our local animal lovers as possible on the day.”

The Delmas Animal Shelter also has drop-off points for food and donations.

To find out more about the shelter and its planned volunteer day or the drop-off points, or even if you are planning to buy a cat or dog, they can be contacted on 060 613 1048 or 076 606 6684.

If no reply, please send a WhatsApp.

“Our funds are really low and the money we do have goes towards food for the animals and the daily upkeep of our shelter said Jolandie.”

The Delmas Animal Shelter asks for donations to care for a broad variety of animals in their care.

If the public wishes to contribute to the shelter’s daily daunting challenges, they can also make a cash donation into the shelter’s cheque account at FNB, cheque account number 62766608255 with branch code 270244, reference donation.

During the volunteer day, people can help to wash the shelter dogs.

“Please support our volunteer day, make it a family outing and see for yourself what the Delmas Shelter is all about. Please confirm attendance so we can plan accordingly.”
