GMM calls on the poor to register

Residents have until April 14 to complete an application form to see if they are eligible for the indigent benefits.

The Govan Mbeki Municipality’s Indigent Registration Campaign got underway on February 17.

Municipal officials are spread across different areas to help residents complete their applications.

The campaign is aimed at alleviating the financial impact of households that live on less than R4 220 a month by subsidising some basic services bills.

The municipality encourages as many qualifying residents as possible to apply for this financial assistance.

Residents must take note that the economic status of each household may improve over time and it is important that they reapply for their indigent status.

Thus far, the attendance is poor, with few homeowners being assisted with the registration process.
