Thabethe says Lekwa Municipality is now functional

“The municipality is now functional and needs to be practical about delivering services to its residents.”

Mayor of the Lekwa Municipality Delani Louis Thabethe emphasised more than once that Lekwa must be put first concerning service delivery.

According to a statement of the communications manager, Lubabalo Majenge, he said the above at the welcoming address during the first mayoral committee meeting in the council chambers on January 22.

“2024 is the year that the municipality has to take advantage of the systems of my administration in the last two years,” Thabethe said.

The mayor addressed members of the mayoral committee and senior management.

Delani Louis Thabethe is the executive mayor of the Lekwa Municipality.

“The municipality is now functional and needs to be practical about delivering services to its residents.”
He touched on 2024 being a new period.

Thabethe also said communities must experience service delivery, not from TV or newspapers, but at their homes.
Ext 2, Crossroads and Phalama were mentioned where residents have not had water for the past 12 years, which ended.

“The technical department led by MMC Majozi will have to ensure that these communities can enjoy the fruit of democracy and the fruit of this administration.”

He referred to the promises made in 2021.

The thorny issue of informal settlements was also mentioned.

He admitted that they were promised transformation and formalisation and basic services to be delivered.
“Our work must be about the people of Lekwa first.”

The approaching elections got a mention, but emphasis was put on necessary services to people.

Thabethe challenged the MM, Malosi Lamola, to ensure employees from top management to lower levels in the hierarchy have an attitude of only providing services.

The mayoral committee was sitting to discuss progress made in the mid-term of the 2023/24 financial year.
The next council meeting is scheduled for January 31.
