Officials clean Rayton and Cullinan

The municipality’s stance on maintaining a clean environment is that it reduces pollution, preserves the biosphere, protects endangered species, and helps preserve natural resources.

Officials from the City of Tshwane tackled the streets of Cullinan, Rayton, Phumzile Park and Onverwacht in a cleaning-up campaign on June 30.

They cleared areas where residents dumped purposefully during the past few months.

The municipality’s stance on maintaining a clean environment is that it reduces pollution, preserves the biosphere, protects endangered species, and helps preserve natural resources.

“Cleanliness is a vital aspect that distinguishes a progressive, cultured, and civilized society from an underdeveloped and uncivilized one,” said Ward 100 councillor, Johannes Bekker.

“It is not just limited to personal hygiene but also encompasses all aspects of our daily lives, including our households, workplaces, and surroundings.”

Bekker said cleanliness is important, for it builds up a healthy environment that facilitates physical and mental well-being and growth.

“Therefore, its individual, as well as collective importance cannot be denied. Throwing your empty beer bottle, on a Sunday afternoon, from your vehicle says a lot about you,” said Bekker.

“It is our mission to educate the residents to dispose of their waste properly and not dump their undesired rubbish all over the ward.”
