Tariff hikes in Lekwa Municipality (Standerton) call for careful planning

Councillors have their work cut out for them when voters report service delivery issues.

Residents and the business community have to contend with tripping incidents as happened on Friday, August 12 when the temperature was such that a woman was seen wearing a summer t-shirt.

Electricity tariffs have increased as well.

On to water supply, the picture differs from time to time since a burst pipe, or the Standerton Water Treatment Plant not functioning optimally, could be the cause of interruptions.

Lekwa Municipality published the approved structure for 2022/2023, adhering to section 17 (3) of the Local Government Municipal Finance Management Act, as well as section 75 (3) of the Municipal Systems Act.

The following percentage increases came into effect on July 1:
• Rates – 5.2%
• Refuse removal – 5.2%
• Sewer – 5.2%
• Water consumption – 5.2%
• Water basic – 5.2%
• Electricity – 7.47%
