Job seekers in Standerton to be aware of fraudsters

“The department does not require people to pay money when applying for employment,” the statement read.

The number of job seekers in South Africa is anticipated to increase after the final examination of last year.

The Department of Correctional Services sent a statement on January 28, saying job scammers are taking advantage of the situation.

According to the department, they prey on vulnerable citizens, including new job seekers, by enticing them with appointment letters, provided a transaction is done as a guarantee to secure a permanent appointment.

The department warned job seekers to be aware of scammers selling application forms, and requesting payment.

“The department does not require people to pay money when applying for employment,” the statement read.

“Employment opportunities are only advertised in the mainstream media and via the departmental website.

“The department furthermore, has no contract with recruitment or placement agencies, nor social media platforms. Those posing as consultants or using online media platforms to advertise and/or facilitate job opportunities in the name of the department are fraudsters.”

According to the statement, they negatively impact their recruitment process.

This criminal offence is taken in a serious light and perpetrators will face the might of the law.

Anyone with information regarding scams may contact the anti-corruption hotline on 0800 701 701.
