Members of the Crime Prevention Unit busted three men for possession of substances suspected to be drugs.
The arrest of the suspects came during a foot patrol operation near Kerk Street in Bethal, which aimed at aiding law enforcement in preventing and deterring crime within their policing precinct.
Members spotted the suspects at different spots during the operation on the same street. A search was conducted with permission from the officers.
Upon searching the suspects, police found different types of substances suspected to be drugs in the suspect’s possessions.
The substance was seized and the suspects were arrested.
“According to the information obtained from the suspects by police, the substances are well known in the area and they comprise mandrax, rock cocaine, crystal meth and nyaope,” said Sergeant Thomas Mogadime, media spokesperson for Bethal police.
He said that during the search and seizure, the police seized 95 pieces of rock drug wrapped in different wraps, 9 packs of mandrax, 15 packs of Crystal meth and 24 packs of nyaope wrapped in brown wrappers.
The estimated street value for the drugs is R5 000.
“The hard-working and dedicated crime prevention team and the entire police at Bethal are determined, regardless of conditions and situations to eradicate drug mules in the area and to create a safer environment for all communities,” said Magadome.
All the suspects were charged accordingly for possession of drugs and will appear before Bethal Magistrates Court on January 18.
