eMbalenhle police investigate toddler’s death

Mthethwa said the investigation could lead to the docket being changed from inquest to murder.

The eMbalenhle police are investigating the death of a two-year-old toddler who died in the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital a month ago.

The hospital only recently alerted the police of the little boy’s death. The toddler’s body was still at the hospital upon the police officers’ visit.

According to Constable Busi Mthethwa, the spokesperson for the eMbalenhle police, the toddler from Ext 26, eMbalenhle, was admitted to the Evander Hospital on January 18 with burn wounds.

The toddler was transferred to the hospital in Johannesburg where he succumbed to his injuries on January 28.

Mthethwa said an inquest is open, but their investigation might change to one of murder.

She appealed to the community members with information about how the child was injured to come forward.
