Drug dealer arrested in Leandra

Residents want an investigation into cops who are allegedly in cahoots with the drug dealers.

A 30-year-old man was arrested and charged with drug dealing in Lebohang on January 17.

According to Constable Nontobeko Ngubeni, the Leandra police spokesperson, community members reported the alleged drug dealer to the police station.

The police responded and the suspect was found with 12 rocks of crystal meth. He was then arrested.

He appeared before the Leandra Magistrate’s Court the next day and was remanded into custody when the court heard of another warrant of arrest against him for a similar case.

Ngubeni said the suspect will soon appear in court while the investigation continues.

The community of Lebohang protested near the courthouse and police station on Tuesday. They demanded that the suspect not be released on bail and that the other drug dealers in the township be arrested.

Community members also promised to assist the police in arresting more dealers. They asked that officers allegedly involved in the drug trade be investigated.
