Bethal Police arrest foreigner for stolen vehicle

The car was reported stolen in Middelburg in June last year.

Bethal Police arrested a foreigner (32) for possesaion of a suspected stolen car today, October 14.

 

Members from Visible Policing were conducting patrols in the Central Business District (CBD),when they spotted a man in a suspicious white VW Polo Vivo.

 

The car was being driven on the wrong side of the road in Liebenberg Avenue, into oncoming traffic.

 

The police pulled over the foreigner. They noticed the vehicle had Gauteng registration number plates, however, when they tried to verification the authenticity thereof, they discovered that the vehicle was reported stolen in Middelburg in June 2021.

 

The suspect was arrested and charged for possession of suspected stolen property.

 

The police’s preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is an Ethiopian national who was reportedly not in possession of legal documents to be in South Africa.

 

A charge of contravention of the Immigration Act was added.

 

The man is due to appear in the Bethal Magistrate’s Court on Monday, October 17.

 

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, Mpumalanga Police spokesman, said more charges might be add in connection with the recovered vehicle and where it was stolen.
