Cullinan SAPS warn residents against cybercriminals

The police in Cullinan warn members of the community about continuous scams whereby people pay large sums of money to so called advertisers on online platforms.

The public is requested to be aware of cybercriminals who target scam payment platforms and online marketplaces to steal victims’ money and to ensure the credibility of the seller before they can purchase any advertised item.

The police in Cullinan warn the community about continuous scams whereby people pay large sums of money to so-called advertisers on online platforms.

Investigation revealed that the majority of the victims react to online advertisements and pay large sums of money as deposits on a wanted item, only to discover that the seller does not exist.

“While some scammers will just publish an advertisement so that you can pay money directly to them, others will be less obvious.

“They will attempt to trick you into giving them personal information they can use to access your finances and even to steal your identity,” said Sergeant Connie Moganedi, Cullinan police corporate communications officer.
