DA calls Standerton police to action

Angel Khanyile, consitiuency head for the DA released a media statement calling the SAPS to action in the Lekwa community

The DA constituency head for Lekwa Local Municipality, Angel Khanyile, called on the police to intensify their efforts to ensure the safety of the community in Standerton and surrounding areas.

This plea in the form of a press release follows the recent spike in what Khanyile described as a disturbing series of incidents.

These include the murder of local businesswoman Renee Lea, the most recent body found floating in the Vaal River and the murder of a 62-year-old man in Coligny Street.

“We are of a firm view that community members are under attack and their lives are at risk.

“Therefore we call on the SAPS to increase their presence through rational patrolling across all areas and ensuring swift action against suspicious individuals,” said Khanyile.

The DA also called for the installation of CCTV cameras along key roads. This will allow activities on these roads to be monitored and will greatly improve response times.

“An urgent intervention of tightened safety measures in Standerton and surrounding areas is needed to protect our communities,” concluded Khanyile.
