Money matters cause looming water supply drop says DA from Delmas

“Although the municipality will be left with 80% of its water supply, areas like Sundra, Eloff and Rietkol will suffer persistent water shortages.”

In a media statement released on September 6, the DA caucus leader in the Victor Khanye Local Municipality (VKLM), Diane Bath, indicated that there is financial mismanagement in the ANC-led municipality.

This comes after the water supply company indicated it would reduce the bulk potable water supply by 20%, effective September 17.

“The DA in Victor Khanye will write to municipal manager Thabo Mashabela and his administrative staff to strengthen the municipality’s revenue collection policies and urgently devise a new repayment plan with Rand Water,” said Bath.

“Although the municipality will be left with 80% of its water supply, areas like Sundra, Eloff and Rietkol will suffer persistent water shortages.

“Because of this, we submitted a petition to Rand Water asking them to reconsider their decision and strike an agreement with the municipality,” Bath added.

Bath said Rand Water informed the DA that they rejected the municipality’s proposed payment plan because of their past experience with the VKLM.

“Again, the ANC administration has proven to be untrustworthy. Notably, Rand Water also revealed that the municipality did not request an exemption from the reduction for certain pipelines. This speaks volumes of the kind of public servants we have in Victor Khanye.”

Bath said residents deserve to know that appointing skilled administrators with proven track records is a vital element in any sphere of government.

“The ANC administration in Victor Khanye is out of their depth. The DA calls on the municipality’s hierarchy to engage with Rand Water and find a solution. We will continue holding the ANC government to account. The ratepayers will not suffer because of the ANC’s incompetency,” Bath concluded.
