Bethal Correctional Services host a family day

The Bethal Correctional Services believes that such family days play a significant role in sustaining the moral and spiritual well–being of offenders.

The Department of Correctional Services, Bethal Management Area, recently hosted a family day where friends, family and relatives from various parts of the country visited their incarcerated loved ones.

The area commissioner, Abel Mashaba, and his executive are working on programmes for the development and well-being of offenders. On the family day, offenders could spend quality time with their visitors while in line with departmental policies.

“The idea of family day plays a significant role in sustaining the moral and spiritual well–being of offenders.

“It provided them with a space to reflect on the past and have a concerted focus on building a better future. It allows the offender to catch up and bond with their families,” said Siphiwe Mahlangu, Bethal Correctional Services spokesperson.

“The day also creates a platform for expanding family values between the offenders and officials, which helps to improve the relations between offenders and the officials for a smoother rehabilitation process.

During the family day, Mashaba said: “The department will continue to host activities and educational programs to empower the inmates, particularly the women.”
