Six suspects nabbed in Boschkop for possession of unlicensed firearms

Police, with the assistance of members of the Boschkop community, arrested six suspects on August 28.

The arrests followed information received about a White Toyota apparently involved in an armed robbery in Benoni.

The group swiftly mobilised by assembling a standby operational team. Shortly thereafter, they spotted the vehicle.

“The team tactically blocked the vehicle, forcing it to a halt as the Boschkop police arrived on scene,” said Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, Tshwane SAPS communication coordinator.

Upon searching the vehicle and suspects, SAPS officers discovered four unlicensed firearms, with serial numbers filed off, as well as a replica firearm and suspected stolen property.

The officers arrested the suspects and they are facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of suspected stolen property, and armed robbery.

“The firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether used in other criminal activities,” Van Dyk added.

The district commissioner of Tshwane, Major General Samuel Thine, expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders for their unwavering commitment to securing the arrests.

He emphasised the importance of community involvement in SAPS efforts to combat crime.
