Lekwa cleans up River Park

The Lekwa Local Municipality has recently started efforts to clean up the river park area.

The recent complaints about the state of the Standerton River Park have not fallen on deaf ears, as the Lekwa Local Municipality (LLM) has begun its effort to restore and maintain the area.

They removed building debris from the Handel Street entrance, making the area more visible and crime prevention easier for security companies, such as Kasselman Security Services and the SAPS.

However, the efforts will not end with this.

“Once we complete removing the debris, the municipality intends to maintain the open space area,” commented Lubabalo Majenge, communications officer for the LLM.

The municipality plans to install bins to discourage people from littering, and have staff collect the waste regularly.

With this effort, Lekwa will attempt to correct years of neglect in the river park area, which will ensure a cleaner, safer Standerton.
