Secunda Cricket Club awards its best cricket players

Xander Muller received the award for best Junior Player of the Year.

Secunda Cricket Club awarded its players for their skills at the club’s awards evening on August 17.

The club’s Sasol 1 Secunda cricket team won the Gert Sibande T20 Championship, the Gert Sibande Premier Championship and the Mpumalanga Premier Championship and finished second in the Mpumalanga T20 Championship.

Secunda Cricket Club’s women’s team received the award as the Highveld and Mpumalanga 35-over champions, while the Sasol U13 cricket team got the award of junior club cricket champions.

Lalique Broxham received awards for the best player among the women, the batter of the year in the Women’s T20 league and the bowler of the year among the women.

Xander Muller walked away with the award for junior player of the year and junior batsman of the year.


Lalique Broxham received the women’s player of the year award at Secunda Cricket Club’s awards ceremony on August 17. With her are Marius du Toit (chairperson of the club) and Dylan Niemand (senior team manager).

Ivor Booysen received the award for best player in the Promo League, as well as best bowler of the year in the same league.

JP van Zyl walked away with two awards. He was chosen as the best player in the Prem2 league and the best bowler in the same league.

Nicus Boshoff received the award of player of the year in the Men’s T20 League while Ignus Koekemoer was awarded the player of the year in the Premier League and the best bowler of the year in the same league.

The other cricket players who received awards for bowlers of the year in their respective leagues are Ethan du Preez (Junior League), Vernon Fourie (Men’s T20 League) and Asanda Methabula (Women’s T20 League).

The players who received awards for batsmen of the year in their respective leagues are George Louw (Men’s T20 League), Bongani Mtswagai (Promo League), Mariska Scholtz (Women’s League) and Werner Muller (Prem 2 League).
