Archers practice in Secunda for upcoming nationals

High school archers participated in a practice session to prepare for a national tournament in Kimberly from September 25 to 28.

High school archers participated in a provincial team practice on August 24 at Laerskool Secunda.

This was in preparation for the national tournament in Kimberly from September 25 to 28, where eight provinces will participate.

An estimated 1 000 provincial archers will compete for selection in the national team that will attend an archery championship in Namibia next June and July.

The weekend’s practice session had high school archers from the Teks Archery Club, Patriot Witbank, Generaal Hertzog Witbank, Secunda Archery Club, Hoërskool Hoogenhout in Bethal and Lydenburg.

“Archery is a family sport, and we drive it as such.

“Anyone able to pull the string can participate,” said Teks Archery Club’s Andre Venter, also a director for Africa Genesis Archery South Africa.

The sport caters for persons with disabilities and has archers at the national level. Archery is an ever-growing sport.
