Steffans Mahlangu is now the Charl Cilliers chief

Bafana Mahlangu, who was leading the delegation sent by the AmaNzunza Ndebele king, Mabhoko III, handed over a certificate to Mahla Steffans.

Steffans Mahlangu is now Charl Cilliers’ chief after his inauguration ceremony on August 17. Mahlangu was inaugurated at the Charl Cilliers multipurpose centre by the Nzunza Mabhoko Traditional Council.

Bafana Mahlangu, who was leading the delegation sent by the AmaNzunza Ndebele king, Mabhoko III, handed over a certificate to Mahla Steffans.

He said Steffans is authorised to mediate in certain civil cases in his customary court, and also to oversee cultural and ritual practices within his capacity as provided for by custom and cultural practices.

Mahlangu (Bafana) also warned Steffans not to be selective when performing his duties as a chief.

“You must treat all people equally by not taking sides. Work with honesty. The community must step up and help you.

“You must safeguard our cultural practices and ensure it is not undermined. Work with other ethnic groups in case they want to practice their cultures because we are now living in a diverse community from different cultures.

“Ensure that our kingship’s dignity, tradition and customs are protected and not dragged through the mud,” said Mahlangu.

Steffans promised to abide by the instructions and promised the Charl Cilliers community that he would work for them honestly and truthfully.
