Foundation members build community centre in eMbalenhle

Centre also offers extra classes to learners of all ages.

Members of the Nkosinathi Da Poet (NDP) Foundation built a community centre in eMbalenhle where Fikile Khumalo was murdered.

The Ridge Times reported about her murder last year after Khumalo was allegedly killed by her boyfriend with a hammer on February 26.

Her lifeless body was discovered by neighbours who alerted the police. It is believed that the motive for the murder was because she had to testify against him in a pending rape case.

However, she died a day before she was supposed to testify.

Nkosinathi Hleza, founder of the NDP Foundation, said: “We want to honour the memory of Khumalo and also create awareness of GBV.”

The foundation’s aim with the community centre is also to reduce the incidents of GBV in the Govan Mbeki municipal area.

Hleza also began with the Izaba Support Group where people who are victims of domestic violence can receive support. The NDP Foundation is located in Azania in eMbalenhle. They want to eradicate poverty by providing daily meals to people and children in need.

Hleza said people in the area will also benefit from the foundation’s event, Ukubekezela Nokuphikelela, which was held recently at the Emasofeni Lounge.

“We were able to hand out clothes, shoes and sanitary pads to those in need,” said Hleza.

The centre also offers extra classes to learners of all grades and ages.
