Standerton author releases another book

Blood Ties is described as a roller coaster of emotions.

The award-winning author, Ishara Pillay, celebrated the release of her latest book, Blood Ties, on July 13 at Standerton Primary School.

This was Pillay’s fourth publication and a sequel to Alyssa’s Secret. Her other works include in 2020, Alyssa’s Secret and an anthology containing short stories and two poems.

She wrote her first book at the age of 57 and won the AfriCAN Honoree Authors Award in 2023 for her publication of 2020.

“Writing allows me to express myself freely. It helps me to reduce stress and anxiety and gives me a sense of pride and accomplishment,” said Pillay in an interview.

Her favourite books include The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.

She is most inspired by her desire to leave a legacy and to make an impact.

Pillay dreams of one day writing a trilogy, possibly including a prequel to Alyssa’s Secret and another anthology of short stories.

Blood Ties is described as a roller coaster of emotions.

Secrets are revealed and family bonds explored.
