Delmas Animal Shelter needs help to protect its animals against the harsh winter cold

“We are reaching out with a heartfelt plea for help. The farm animals we care for desperately need grass bales and mealies; we cannot bear to see them hungry and we know you can't either.”

With the cold of winter comes the need for the Delmas Animal Shelter (DAS) to provide love, warm accommodation and food for the stray animals in their care.

DAS cares not only for dogs and cats but also for farm animals such as horses, donkeys and many more.

As a non-kill shelter, DAS rescues animals from homelessness, hunger, loneliness and often from abuse.

“We, however, urgently need assistance to continue our mission of compassion and care for those who cannot speak or provide for themselves,” said the owner, Jolandie Verwey.

The Delmas Animal Shelter (DAS) is pleading for grass bales and mealies to feed this mommy donkey and her baby.

According to the owners, mother and daughter team Jorinda and Jolandie Verwey, the public’s support can make a difference, not only in their personal lives but also in the lives of the animals they care for.

“We are reaching out with a heartfelt plea for help. The farm animals we care for desperately need grass bales and mealies; we cannot bear to see them hungry, and we know you cannot either,” said Jolandie.

Other needs include blankets and wooden pellets to keep the animals warm, wet and dry dog- and cat food, tick-and-flea dip and deworming medicine.

The shelter also needs wheelbarrows, rakes, cleaning products and overalls for the staff. Jorinda and Jolandie mentioned the need for cash donations to pay the bills.

“Our expenses are overwhelming as we have to pay salaries, keep the lights on and pay our veterinary bills,” added the two women.

Morris needs the assistance of the public.

“Every contribution, no matter how small, helps us to provide food, shelter and medical care for these vulnerable animals.

“DAS also offers the option of ‘adopting an animal’ for the amount of R250 per month, but if you are looking for a specific bundle of love to warm your house, we have one for you.”
