The swop shop is a community development programme founded by Sasol Secunda Junior Engineers in 2013 as part of the Sasol for Good Programme.

According to Sasol, the programme began at schools where learners were encouraged to collect waste and take it to the recreation club in exchange for school books and other learning necessities.

When most learners began to involve their parents and family members Sasol decided to involve everyone in recycling, young and old, and introduced vouchers.
