Parkrunners in Secunda improve times

Anybody is welcome to join Secunda parkrun every Saturday.

Dirk van den Heever was the first man to finish the Secunda parkrun on July 6. Rikus le Roux finished second, and Barry Visagie third.

Trinity Henning was the first woman to cross the finish line, while Erika Swart finished second and Mmakgabo Masipa third.

Sophia Grobbelaar (81) was the oldest woman to take part in the parkrun and completed her 252nd parkrun, while Leopold Middelberg (83) was the oldest man to take part in the parkrun. He completed his 118th parkrun.

Riaan Venter joined the green 250 milestone club. The organisers said 118 athletes participated in the parkrun, and eight parkrunners ran their personal best times.

They are Keegan Lessing, Sthembile Molapisi, Anne-Marie Smit, Klarissa van Eeden, Refentse Poto, Janesca Alberts, Beryl Coles and Johan Odendaal.

The organisers thanked the volunteers, Jannie Botha, Kobus Botha, Rina Botha, San-Marie Cronjé, Paul du Plooy, Sophia Grobbelaar, Henriette Janse van Rensburg, Johannes Janse van Rensburg, Ettienne Kotze, Lettie le Roux, Louis le Roux, Siwan le Roux, David Maans, Celia Reyneke, Mthokozisi Sibanyoni, Anton Stafleu, Johanna van Tonder, Riaan Venter, Andriëtte Viljoen and Hennie Viljoen for their hard work and support.

Anybody is welcome to volunteer.

Other running events include a 4km or 8km run at the Secunda Marathon Club every Wednesday at 18:00 and the Happy Feet walking group every Thursday at 08:00 from the St Peter’s United Church on the corner of Van Eck and Charl Cilliers streets.

Anybody is welcome to run, walk or crawl in the Secunda parkrun every Saturday at 08:00. Participation is free, and bring your barcode.
