Secunda Regional Court again postpones case against suspected serial killer

Statements from forensic experts presented at Themba Shongwe's trial.

The Secunda Regional Court has again postponed the trial of alleged serial killer, Themba Shongwe.

He appeared before the court on June 25.

The prosecutor, Tracy Keen-Horak, presented statements made by two forensic experts from the police forensic laboratory. They were unable to be in court in person.

These two experts had been available on June 10 but the defense lawyer was not present. Their statements were accepted by the court as evidence.

Shongwe is accused of killing young girls between the ages of 11 and 16 years from 2016 to 2018.

The murders of Mihle Zingamo, Cynthia Masilela and cousins Lerato Nkutha and Nokulunga Nkutha, as well as an unidentified girl, sent shockwaves through the community of eMbalenhle.

The eMbalenhle community came out in numbers to support the families of the victims at court.
