Court gives business robber from Ekangala 25 years

Dan Masango was arrested and convicted for a business robbery at U Save in Ekangala.

Dan Masango from Ekangala was sentenced on June 19 to 25 years imprisonment for a business robbery in Ekangala on January 20, 2020.

Masango robbed the U Save in section D of Ekangala.

Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, the communications co-ordinator for Tshwane SAPS, said, “He entered U Save armed with a firearm and instructed the cashier to open the safe. The cashier told Masango that the safe had a time-delayed lock and would take time to open.

“Despite her explanation, he insisted she open the safe, and they had to wait a long time for it to open. Masango eventually gave up waiting and decided to take money from the cash register, amounting to R1 000, and fled the store,” said Van Dyk.

A task force was then established, and Masango was traced and arrested. Following his arrest, the case was handed to Sergeant Kenneth Sifiso Mahlangu from the detective service in Ekangala to investigate the robbery.

“Mahlangu, the investigating officer, successfully opposed bail for Masango in court. Dan Masango was found guilty and sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for armed robbery,” said Van Dyk.
