Grootdraai Dam is now on 89.5%

The report showed the average dam levels in Mpumalanga dropped from 94.8% to 94.5%.

Water levels of the Grootdraai Dam in Standerton continue to drop, dipping below 90%.

According to the reservoir report from the Department of Water and Sanitation, dated June 17, the dam recorded a further drop from last week’s 90.4% to 89.5%.

Grootdraai Dam is in the Integrated Vaal River System in the Gert Sibande District of Mpumalanga. This statistic is in line with the drops in the average dam levels and water management areas in the province.

Looking at the other listed dams in the district, the picture shows declining water levels, with only the Vygeboom Dam remaining unchanged at 100.3% and the rest recording declines.

On the decline mode, Nooitgedacht Dam dropped from 89.8% to 89.5%, Jericho from 68.6% to 68.5%, Westoe from 62.6% to 60.7%, Morgenstond from 84.8% to 84.0%, and Heyshope from 100.2% to 100.0%.

The report showed the average dam levels in Mpumalanga dropped from 94.8% to 94.5%.

In the Water Management Areas, the Olifants dropped from 85.1% to 84.9% and the Inkomati-Usuthu dropped from 95.3% to 95.0%.

The districts also recorded declines in water levels with Ehlanzeni dropping from 98.7% to 98.5%, Gert Sibande from 91.7% to 91.2%, and Nkangala from 96.4% to 96.1%.

The department called on the public to be responsible water users and be more conservative in their water use, fix leaks, and prevent water loss.

They encouraged the public to protect and prevent pollution of water resources as every drop counts in a dry and water-scarce country like South Africa.
