Combrink, Van der Linde clinch Gold Rush golf tournament in Evander

Eighty-nine players competed on Friday, 106 on Saturday, 79 on Sunday and 79 on Monday.

Jan Combrink and Anzulette van der Linde are this year’s winners of the Gold Rush golf tournament hosted annually at Walker Park Golf Club.

Combrink, who played off a new 19 handicap, boasted an overall score of 89 and Van der Linde, with a new handicap of 29, played a score of 93.

The Gold Rush is played every fourth year over four days.

The winners are determined by the scores of the best two days, added to determine the overall winners.

MornĂ© Nortje won the men’s division on the first day (June 14) with a score of 46. Van der Linde was the women’s winner with 48 points.

Day two’s winners were Paul van Biljon with 46 points and Bettie Combrink with 44 points. The couple, Jan Combrink with 48 points and Bettie Combrink with 45 points won the third day.

The winners of the fourth day were veteran Lukas Potgieter on a 42 count out and Lienkie Oostuhizen with 51 points.

According to club manager, MJ Russell, the Gold Rush was well-supported, with 89 players on Friday, 106 on Saturday, 79 on Sunday and 79 on Monday.
