Sewage spills take priority in Bronkhorstspruit

The City of Tshwane is taking steps to fix the sewage problems in and around Bronkhorstspruit.

The City of Tshwane (CoT) resolved the continuous sewage spills at the Bronkhorstspruit Spar on June 13. This sewer pipe was blocked for more than two days.

A jetting truck unblocked the sewage blockages for two days before the CoT sent their team to resolve the problem.

After an investigation and assessment, the CoT found the sewerage pipes at Spar were broken. They then replaced the pipes.

Jabu Mabona, regional head of Region 7 said, “We have also started doing work on the Versterpark sewerage pipes.

“These have reached their lifespan and have cracked under the N4 national road after the work done by a contractor, appointed by the city in the past two weeks.

“This included a camera inspection and other technological work.”

“The contractor discovered the crack in the middle of the N4 road. We are now going to move to the next phase of the work; on how we address the broken pipes in consultation with Sanral, as they are responsible for the national road maintenance in the country.

“We are exploring options in addressing the Versterpark sewerage pipe. Once again we salute our sewer team, which is involved in replacing the old infrastructure, which is creating sewage spills in the region.”

The work that is being done in refurbishing the sewer plants to operate optimally and the residents in the region through the IDPs indicated the city should prioritise the replacement of some of the old infrastructure,” said Mabona.
